In the liver, cholecalciferol (Calcifediol ) is metabolized into 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, which is then modified in the kidneys to become 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (Calcitriol). Calcitriol then stimulates pancreatic islet cells to release insulin. There are insulin receptors all over your body, including muscle tissue.
